One of the most notorious residents of Walls, Mississippi has written a very entertaining and provocative book giving many glimpses into the weird world that was professional "rasslin". Today pro wrestling is "sports entertainment, but when Bruno was heavily involved, things were a bit different. Until recent years, it had been a closed society which was dominated by family, and difficult, almost impossible to break into, yet "DownTown Bruno" managed to finagle a way in. The stories are entertaining, yet carefully crafted so as to praise many, offend few, and never ever burn bridges. It is, however an entertaining read. I know very little more about Bruno after reading it than I did before, other than that he can tell a very good story. If you love "road stories" about pranks etc, you will love it, but in the end it ends up being a lot like Chinese food. Good going down at the time, but an hour or two later you wish there had been more substance to it.
I had no intentions of buying this book and really didn't know about it until I read some reviews and read comments from Chris Jericho and mick foley about it.A really fun, entertaining read and a brutally honest account that pulls no punches. I enjoyed hearing the stories from the territories and how much wrestling meant to him. My only complaint? He didn't rip on Brutus beefcake as much as it sounded like he would. Fun read for any wrestling fan.
I enjoyed this book. It was a interesting read. I learned a lot about the subject that the book is about.
Entertaining, easy read. Great stories. Brutally honest. Recommended for anyone who enjoys reading about territories, the difficulty of breaking into wrestling business and the inner workings of the WWE.
I've never had much interaction with Bruno as far as viewing on television. I do however remember him in WWE. At first I was reluctant and now I'm so glad I took the chance to get inside the head of the wipple. An incredible story cover to cover. I wished it never ended.
Good book draws you in once you get used to Bruno's personality which I like-took me back to some awesome wrestlers. I had ringside seat for SWCW for years, the book talks about Bruno's journey to be A great Manager and the bumps and pitfalls of the biz as well as the many interactions he had with many Superstars. Bruno's honest no holds barred journey and his perspective make for a awesome book.
It's OK. Quick read, pretty cool stories. Bruno, I've never read someone who kisses McMahon's a$$ as much as you do, but I guess I understand.
I love wrestling especially southern. Have one wrestler that floats my boat but he wasn't mentioned that much in Bruno's book. Still a good read if ya like wrestling and Bruno.
