This 4 Star thriller kept me reading nonstop! I wavered a little on the rating. I thought I was ready to rate it 3.5 but just had to up it to a four.SUMMARYCharlie is the overprivileged daughter of one of the biggest real estate developers in NYC. From the outside it looks like she has everything; beauty, brains, a family with an elite social status and more money than anyone could ever need, BUT looks can be deceiving. Charlie has had a huge hole in her heart since her mother disappeared under very well publicized, suspicious circumstances ten years ago. In the aftermath, her father sent her and her sister to live, first with family, and then to boarding school. Since that time, Charlie has always wondered what happened and why her mother abandoned the family. It has, understandably, left Charlie with a lot of questions and some serious trust issues. The book opens with Charlie in her junior year at one of the top boarding schools in the country. She has been invited to join the it club at her school which is so illusive and prestigious that no one outside the club can even truly verify its existence and no outsider knows for sure who the members are. There are definitely no yearbook photos.Of course, there are a few things the initiates have to do; challenges to be met and tests of loyalty, before they become full fledged members. None of these challenges leave Charlie with a clean conscience, and in fact, she finds herself having to reevaluate her morals, loyalties and who she is as person before the book is over.In addition to everything Charlie has going on regarding her moral dilemma, a couple things happen which create within her a renewed curiosity about her mother's departure. She keeps getting mixed messages about the type of person her mother actually was. If you listen to her father's family; her mother was a good digger who cleaned out a safe deposit box and shamelessly left her husband and young girls. But, on the other hand, if you listen to her mother's family, her mother was a lovely woman who adored her children and would have NEVER purposely left them which means that CLEARLY someone did something to her (with strong hints that it was Charlies father). The more Charlie digs, the more she realizes how interconnected everything really is.

I would have given the book a higher rating had it not been for some inconsistencies that were just too hard to overlook and which took away from the story. I will not cite specifics so as not to spoil the book for potential readers. The premise of this book was enough to keep me interested and I never really felt like I didn't want to finish it. The author did a decent job of stringing the reader along for a while (if you can look past the inconsistencies), but there were too many context clues that gave the plot away several chapters too early. Having the story unfold via varying points of view was great and I think the author did a great job with the transitions between those points of view. It was evident that this was a first novel from the author, but there is enough here that makes the book worth reading.

I don't know how people can say this book was "unputdownable". I was drawn to the story line but it seemed like it just went on and on and on - generally I can get through a book in a few days to a week, but it took me a good 3 + weeks to get through this, only because I wanted to see what happened. Disappointing and boring ending. Groan. If anyone has a good suggestion like "The Last Mrs. Parrish" or "The Last Thing she Ever Did", please let me know - I feel like I haven't read a great book in months. :(

This was a "just can't put it down" mystery! I literally was obsessed with reading every spare minute I could. Great character development and really liked the dual plot lines with the boarding school secret society and the mystery of the disappearance of the main character's mother. For me, I feel it's always a great book when I find myself still thinking about the characters long after I've turned to that last page. It will be awhile before I forget about Charlie and the sadness I felt for all that she lost, in spite of how good it felt to have her find her way.

This book stayed in my head for days. It was definitely not a read it and forget it book and I love when an author can do that - make a book and it’s characters and setting unforgettable.Charlie had a strength and a dogged determination that I loved. And there was a whole cast of characters besides her to love and to hate and all of them were memorable as well. The boarding school and it’s A’s - the secret society in all of its creepy deliciousness - was fascinating and I enjoyed the anxiety the hazing adventures produced, and may have read some bits with my hands over my eyes.I highly recommend this book to lovers of family drama, teenage angst, thrillers and intriguing mysteries. This was a fabulous read and I enjoyed every minute.

When I selected this First Read, I did not realize it would be so focused on the lives of over-privileged, self-centered teenagers and their oh-so-successful parents, neither of which I find very appealing. But the plot keeps you hooked, whether you find the characters likable or not. When you realize how many to-dos you have left undone because you just had to keep reading, you know the book is well constructed. A recommendation to future readers: have a paper and pencil handy to help you keep track of the various characters and their relationships as they first appear throughout the pages. That way you won't have to go back as many times as I did trying to remember who is who. :-))

Really liked this book. The plot hooked me from the beginning. I have started to like the current trend of back and forth storytelling in different time periods, from different points of view. I like having the clues doled out regularly from the earliest time periods, it maintains the urgency to keep reading. I think this novel will appeal to adult readers as well as YA.PS: Charlie is a GIRL, not a boy!

I read this book in two days because I was so curious about how the mystery was going to pan out. I also liked the idea of the secret society. At first I wasn’t really able to connect to the main character because of her lifestyle, but she grew on me at the very end.
