About the Author

David N. Hyman, professor of economics and alumni distinguished undergraduate professor at North Carolina State University, has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in public finance there since 1969. Professor Hyman received his Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University. He has held Woodrow Wilson, Earhart, and Ford Foundation fellowships and was a Fullbright senior research scholar in Italy in 1980. In 1997, he was visiting professor of economics at the University of Ferrara in Italy. Professor Hyman is a member of the Academy of Outstanding Teachers at North Carolina State University and received the Alumni Association Outstanding Teacher Award in 1982 and 1996. He is the author of several widely used textbooks in economics and has published scholarly articles in the NATIONAL TAX JOURNAL, PUBLIC CHOICE, the JOURNAL OF ECONOMICS EDUCATION, and other respected academic journals. Professor Hyman served the President's Council of Economic Advisors as a consultant and senior staff economist from 1988 to 1989. He also has been a guest scholar at the Brookings Institution and has worked as a government budget analyst and as an economist for the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and the U.S. Comptroller of the Currency. Professor Hyman also is a photographer whose palladium and platinum prints are in the permanent collection of the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. His photographs have been exhibited by galleries and museums and have been published in art books and on the covers of several novels.

For the course I was enrolled in this text was what I needed.For anyone just studying finance I disliked the text because it was difficult to search for words or meanings and at times I found myself reading four and five pages to locate one sentence. There is an index and vocabulary is listed in the back but the challenge was many of the terms I was searching for were not listed.I was required to pick up this text for a college course and it did the job. I don't know if I would recommend it for anyone really wanting to learn about public finance.

packed with unnecessary information which makes the book very boring and hard to follow.

Wife had to use this text for a course in public finance. The course stated there were no prerequisites to take the class, however once she started she felt completely confused by the text and had severe difficulty until she was about 80% through the course. Unnecessarily difficult to read and unnecessarily stressful.I looked through the book myself and having previously completed both macro- & micro-economics and finance the book seems to be a mashup of those three topics with additional public policy-specific issues added on top. While the public policy aspects were interesting, by merging three topics it does not provide a true picture of any of the three topics, so students end up being confused over what should be fundamental economic concepts. For example, students end up having to learn how economic graphs are structured and read which is typically different than how "normal" math graphs are interpreted, so students are slowed down by trying to learn fundamentals in what is in essence a more advanced text. My wife felt that she should have been warned by the school to have at least watched a set of lectures on macro- & micro-econ before attempting this course so she would have the background necessary to understand the material. This book should never be provided to students who have not taken a basic economics course.

This was a very expensive book for class. It is very informative, but the cost is too much. Anyone can buy a basic finance and accounting book to understand the principles in this book.

I guess I expected a little more detail. In reading the introduction the author claimed to write in a content driven, detail rich format. He tells the reader to do things but doesn't explain what he means. In one example he talks about shooting pictures that look like a miniature toy by blurring the back ground and foreground, he doesn't tell us how to do that. In many of the example photographs throughout the book he doesn't include the camera settings which is important to give us an idea of how to take a similar picture.I also thought this book would be more about the "art" of photography. I purchased the book based on the title and introduction. The book fails to talk about the concepts that make photography an art form. In many examples he talks about the commerce of photography such as how he or the photographers highlighted in the book sell images. I wanted information on how to create images that income emotion.I did give the book three stars as it does include some good information on photography, just not on the "art" of Photography.

I read Al Judge's trilogy of photography books to learn the science behind photography. I've always had good instincts and good eye, but I wanted to learn the technical side of it. His three books do an amazing job of breaking down the science behind taking pictures, and even take it a step further to have a deeper understanding of the printing side of prints (something I had not really considered before). I would recommend this series of books for anyone who wants to take their photography skills more seriously in the future.

What I like about this book are the higher resolution images in the kindle edition. Some photography books only provide that grainy thumbnail that looks really crappy when you zoom in. Al give you a high quality image to examine. Thanks Al, I know that does cost you a bit extra for delivery fee's from Amazon.Another plus is that the images also include the camera settings; you know, the ISO, F-stop, the shutter speed, and so on.Al goes through a number of genres, nature photography (my personal favorite), cities, art, people, and others.All and all, highly recommend for folks who want to learn more how to improve what they do.

I am a professional photographer, but still I would love to learn from others. This book is fantastic for begginer photographers, AND FOR WHO ARE PROFESSIONAL. Honestly I picked up very 2 important subject that made me a much better photographer. I would recommend it.

While Book 1 was good as a warm up, it might be a little too basic for people who are looking for angles and stimulations from other professionals, while learning the tips from a technical angle. This Book 2 serves this purpose well. It includes comments and examples from leading photographers, all with their own unique perspectives. I found this a very useful reference.

There are so many useful ideas, I'm going to have to retread this several times to absorb it all. The different perspectives offered by the different artists are very thought provoking. Excellent reference book.

A good basic review of the subject with some good tips.

I have seen where this book was a class requirement. I bought it as I am going into the field, and have loved every page of it. The intro, the individual stories, the various examples of career options and review questions to consider- wonderful! Highly recommend for those people deciding whether this is a career they would like to enter and to learn more about the various career paths a social worker can take.

I am currently in a stage of my life where it's time to decide what I want to do next. I had toyed around with the idea of getting a Masters in Social Work, but wasn't sure what that would mean exactly in a day to day sense. So, I bought this book hoping it would answer some questions I had concerning what exactly it is that social workers do every day. I found the book incredibly helpful. The way it is arranged is great in that each baby chapter is a day in the life of a social worker in a different field. I got to experience what each kind of social worker does and it really helped narrow the scope of what I wanted to do. I have now decided to get my Masters in Social Work with an emphasis in criminology. This book was paramount to helping make my decision! A definite must buy for anyone thinking about going into this field.

Absolutely love this book! The humors and self-honest narratives remind me of my field seminars, while working on my MSW. I also hadn’t realized the diversity with the social work profession. If you are thinking of becoming a social worker or are even feeling burn out and want to remember why you became a social worker; I highly recommend this book!

This book is such an amazing peek into different social work careers. I am applying to MSW programs now and I have gleaned so much insight from this book. If you have any interest in social work for any reason I seriously can't recommend this book enough. Buy it!

I enjoy reading this book because it helps me to feel more connected to my profession. It reminds me why we (social workers) do what we do. It's also an excellent book for undergraduate and graduate social work students because it will provide insight into the many areas within our line of work. Also, if you're undecided about what area of practice you wish to enter, this book may provide you with answers.

I was happy with my purchase. I read this while studying to become a social worker. I liked that it contains different stories of social work. It is such a varied field.

Loved this book! With my plans to start my MSW this fall, I found it very fascinating to read about the broad range of social work options. Whether you're already in the social work field, planning to enter it, or just interested in catching a glimpse of what the field is like, I would recommend.

The book was really helpful to me, because i'm going to be graduating with my BSW in a year and going on to grad school so i have to pick a concentration. The only problem i found with this book was that it had a lot of information on some specializations, such as working with older adults or criminal justice, and other areas were neglected. There wasn't anything about working for an adoption agency -- mainly i wanted to learn more about other areas in social work that aren't normally mentioned. Besides this, the book was good at giving you in in-depth look at what your life would be like as a social worker in these areas.

I am surprised that the "belly plea" did not come up in court since Abigail was already having morning sickness and delivered a baby in the Epilogue. Sometimes becoming a duchess is quite a bit more hectic path than a quiet carriage ride or stroll around Hyde Park. It gets to be a roller coaster ride with possible wrong turns!

Percival lost his parents at a young age and was raised by his aunt along with her son Henry. She has been pushing him to marry Rosaline and telling him that his parents would have been very much behind the marriage. Percival asks her to marry him but states that the engagement not be announced until the ball.Rosaline asks him to escort her to the dressmakers so she can have a dress made for the occasion. He meets the young lady and her mother that own the place and becomes interested in her more so than Rosaline who becomes aware that something is going on. Rosaline accuses the young lady of theft while in the shop. When Percival breaks their engagement, she plots with his aunt to get rid of her competition by having her thrown in Newgate Prison by framing her for stealing.Percival finds out who killed his parents, Henry overhears a conversation between his mother and Rosaline's father in her bedroom hatching a conspiracy for murdering the new Duchess whom has been returned to Newgate Prison.

Lies, betrayal, suspense, and passion in a storyline that drew me in from start to finish. Lady Rosalind was no lady- evil schemer! I liked the way Abby and Percy met and sparked- it just seemed fated and meant to be. I liked the strength of both main characters. Lesser people would have crumbled under the obstacles thrown their way. I liked the epilogues because they gave me closure and wrapped things up. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book and am giving an honest review.

The initial start of the book was a bit slow. As the story developed I became more engrossed by the plot and characters. Abigail catches the Duke's eye, however Percival is affianced to another. Undercurrents of deceits and lies come to the fore. Abigail and Percival endure a gauntlet of problems in the quest for their HEA. Not only were the main couple good characters , but the supporting ones were also.

An exceptional seamstress catches the eye of a Duke and the situation unfolds in the most unexpected ways. Nasty surprises continue to appear in every chapter yet the Duke holds firm to his love of the seamstress even as the mystery of her background as well as his parents demise is revealed.

I enjoyed this historical romance it is definitely a great story that keeps you hooked. I like the plot and the characters. The story is suspenseful with mystery, secrets, betrayal and riveting twists and turns. I thoroughly enjoyed Abigail and Percival's story!! Nice and steamy romance!

Once again a maverlous story by this author. I just enjoy her books so much and can really recommend this book to all my friends you will not be dissapointed

This is a wonderful read! Great characters! I loved Percival and Abby,s characters.They never let anyone or anything! Stand in there way of a happy ending. This story kept me on the edge of my seat, with every plot,the evil ones were planning. Thank you! ❤️

One of the pivotal books in helping with my first technology start-up. Crystalizes the concepts and principles about building new markets and identifying/profiling prospects in an emerging market for a new technology.Should be read before and in conjunction with "Inside the Tornedo".

I have read "Crossing the Chasm" and "Inside the tornado" by Moore, both very good books! When I first laid my eyes on this book I had a slight feeling that there might be risk of overlap. I think Wiefelds saw this as well and got a good endorsement by his colleague Moore - to state that this is a complement, not a repetition. That the book was published after the dot-com, in 2002, felt reassuring though - a lot of good lessons were probably to be learned for the reader. Ok, so I had high expectations, but felt a slight doubt.After reading the book I have two statements:1. The book delivers some more hands on the two books it referrers to, some really good lists. All in all about nine pages of good ROI-of time material.2. I am very sad that Wiefelds did not listen to his own good recommendation: don't talk about your product as you know it - know your target group! Wiefelds should know that I am not planning on reading this book for fun - I want a high gain/time-quota, not 352 pages that take a week to read, when a 20 page leaflet would be sufficient! Because the book is repetitive - very!To summarize:The book offers some good hands on tips and lists, but should have been a 20 page leaflet.

I've been familiar with Geoffrey Moore's work since hearing him speak at a Cisco Systems Partner Summit in 1998. This field book is a must for anyone who wants to understand what to do (and not to do) to successfully market a high-tech product at each stage of the Technology Adoption Life Cycle, and during the Product Life Cycle. Reading this book has helped me better understand how and why we succeeded (and failed when we failed) at my previous company in the tech bubble of the 1990s. The challenge for managers and executives when reading this book is having the courage and fortitude to apply these principles, even when they seem counter-intuitive.

It's a very simple and clear framework to keep in mind, with VERY practical results in day-to-day activities of product management (specially for those, like me, come from "techies" backgrounds). It's reccommended to read the other 5 books of Chasm Group to fully understand the concepts, but to start using as product manager, this is THE guide.

I have been a keen student of the Chasm Group publications for a number of years and this book starts to bridge the gap between the theory of visionaries, tornados, gorillas etc and the application of the concepts in practice. The style is very readable and filled with good "common sense". I have already started using it in earnest

After reading the Moore's "Crossing the Chasm", this book really bored me. Maybe the language used in the book is the problem. I am not sure. However, I highly reccommend you to buy Moore's "Crossing the Chasm". It is an excellent book.

Wiefels get to the heart of high tech marketing. Nothing I have read has more insights or is more useful in the practical application of marketing constructs for high tech. Anybody in high tech, indeed in marketing of any sort, can benefit from these concepts.
