I'm relatively new to *BSDs though I've used Linux since the early 1990s so I read the author reviews extensively before purchasing this book. Michael Lucas writes just like everyone says and make the topic easy to understand. I've purchased two other books written by the author on ZFS and Network Flow Analysis and he is consistent in style with each of these books. This is a large book and I'm only 25% through it though I must admit that I hop around a lot reading all the interesting topics so I might be half way. I will keep it as a reference and use the ZFS book for the software installation portion that this book covers which is to say the 3rd edition will be welcomed when published.

Not sure tapes drives (for backups) need to be covered anymore, would have preferred more detail about what files/dirs outside /home are most important to backup. The chapter on printing is a joke, lpr is briefly covered, but no CUPS, filters, printing pdf and images, inkjets, color, etc. Printing from BSD is still in the dark ages compared to Windows, I really needed more printing info. Waaaay too much time is spent on Apache. If I want Apache info I'll buy an Apache book. Same with Sendmail. The time spent on Apache should have been devoted to printing. I don't mine if the author wants to add off-topic info, I'll skip those chapters. But I feel he's added non FreeBSD info at the expense of FreeBSD topics. There's no significant coverage of GPT, gpart, or ZFS. Too much time on fdisk, GPT is more useful now. No info on SSD's, they need to be used differently (4K blocks, TRIM). Too much time on fringe GEOM features. Reading the FreeBSD Handbook is a much better intro and value.

Too much information that is useless to someone who just wants to get running. If you're an expert at FreeBSD, then this book is for you...Edit:I was harsh in my first reviewing. This is a good book written by a knowledgeable author but I am still cutting my teeth on FreeBSD and this is not a beginner's book. It has a lot of information but does require some intermediate knowledge of what is being discussed to get the most out of the book.

Awesome book. Talks about far more interesting things then the other Linux books that I have read. Only giving it 4 as opposed to 5 because I haven't finished it yet. I absolutely plan to buy more books from this author.

I've read a few UNIX/freeBSD books and this one was the best. It had much more than just information about freeBSD however. There was good descriptions on how many basic computer services work.Many of the books I've read had more quantity than quality, but this is definitely the opposite. It has everything you need to get a basic server up and running, along with a few other things.

This book had a lot of what I already knew but it was a great add to my collection of books for BSD. It had some interesting things in it to help harden the server more than I already had it. It also gave me some tips of things I could do or add to the server to help me with some other htings I wanted to do, but couldn't remember the commands to get it done. Great Book

Out of date but there are still some good points

I was disappointed when I found that the latest publication date fot the Divorce Handbook was 1984. Imagine Amazon touting a 27-year-old book! Thank God I only lost about six bucks.Material very, very basic.The delivery was timely and item received in good order.

I'm a family law attorney in California. This book really is great. It answers a lot of questions that I get asked everyday. It has great advice on custody, visitation, court procedure, and how to pick (and fire) and attorney. Great for those who are doing it on their own, or for those who have an attorney. A great book to read prior to interviewing a divorce attorney. Good Job!

The Divorce Handbook has been updated 3 times since 1984. It continues to be a basic guide, but you must talk to a lawyer before entering into a divorce proceeding so you know what to expect and after to remember his or her advice. We are in "the wind fight" in our county. I bought 6 copies. One for me, one for a "signer" in our family (disclaimer: in-law), three for our commissioners who seem mostly clueless and one for our local newspaper reporter. This is a quick read and I HIGHLY recommend it for anyone who needs to be a quick study on the wind scam, because let's face it, Hubner is right, these crony capitalists sneak into our counties and try to rob us (and American taxpayers) blind. A must read. Thanks to Mr. Hubner for this excellent book.

Finally someone brave enough to stand up to Big Wind and their money. Someone who is willing to expose the tax breaks given to the very rich that cost average Americans billions of dollars. The book describes the damage being done to our rural communities (little people) by the oppression of the big wind agenda. It no longer seems to be the country that our parents and grand parents created. The very rich can impose their will upon common hard working people with out repercussions. The book is a must read for all Americans so that they can understand the truth about wind turbines and not the false news presented by our media.

If oil companies or coal companies or natural gas companies did what the wind energy companies appear to have done in Hubner's book, there would be Congressional subpoenas issued. Instead, borne on the wings of Al Gore and Barack Obama, the "green" energy cabal avoids having a bright light shining upon it.Environmentalists and other proponents of "green" energy cannot abide anyone who points out the facts about their "revolution". The "Green New Deal" proponents such as Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez should be forced to live and work near a wind farm, to fully comprehend the "utopia" they are wishing upon everyone else. But just like Al Gore's TN home uses more power than a small city, the members of the Political Elite don't dare to live as they intend the rest of us to live.

This is a good "starter" book, but misses a few points. Page 14, the author states, " I am not opposed to renewable energy," and on the next page he states, " the turbines are only 30-40% efficient." Actually, there is no such thing as a "renewable" energy, and this is one of the terms the industry uses, one of those perversions of language, like "sustainable," "green." And wind turbines are now considered only about 13% efficient. Those exaggerated claims by the industry are used to gain more access to loans, guaranteed PTC funds, etc. So that throw the reader off, and colors a bit of reading forward. However, the author does a great job of understanding the facets of wind turbine rural life in chaos, and destruction. Glad to have ordered it.

If you are a proponent of alternative energy, and particularly wind energy, this is a MUST read. If wind energy is being proposed in ANY community in which you, your loved ones or friends have an interest, PLEASE read this book first.

Fills in missing info about wind farms that isn't usually published.

Well written, researched and accurate as to what happens when big wind and big money set out to destroy the tranquility, vistas, long standing friendships, wildlife, land and property values of rural America. For those who believe wind turbines are green and sprout out of the ground, think again. The cost of manufacturing, transporting, assembling and maintaining (all using fossil fuels) can never be recovered. The audible and inaudibile sounds and health problems associated with them is finally being studied. If you are considering investing have a good lawyer read the contract before signing it. You just might be signing away your children's and grandchildren's future. For believers and nonbelievers in wind energy, those seeking to know more, and those who are dealing with this intrusion into their way of life, this is a must read.

Paradise Destroyed was an interesting read. I had minimal knowledge of wind energy and how it affects the people who "host" the mills. The biggest challenge in reading this book was overlooking the extremely personal biases that are riddled throughout. That is unfortunate, mostly because it took weight away from the research being presented. There is lots of evidence supporting the authors claim that wind energy/wind farms are growing in popularity based solely on tax credits...not because they are the most efficient renewable energy source. I am thankful to this author for doing the research, and writing this book with such passion because there are people who will be approached by energy companies looking to lease their land who have no idea what the small print entails. I wish the arguments were presented with more scholarly and rational conclusions, but the information within really does speak for itself. We need to rethink the wind tax credit, and we need to defend our citizens'/land owners' health and finances from energy companies, domestic and foreign. And keep up with your regulatory utility commissions!!

This memoir had me from the first few pages. By the second chapter, I was wishing it would never end. It was like sitting down for coffee with a best friend with whom you share so much in common. Susan Richards put into words so many of my feelings for horses and for my life with them, that I could scarcely believe these words were coming from the voice of someone else. Richard's writing skill is above reproach. It is just a pure joy to read. My only complaint is that the book had to end. My only hope is that she write more wonderfully honest books about her life & that of her horses. Bless you Ms. Richards. You touched my heart.

I began reading this book the day after I put my Tennessee Walker down. I too am a therapist, with herniated discs and back pain, divorced from an abusive man and a survivor of childhood abuse. My current husband is a Vietnam Vet- a wonderful man, I love dearly. Sharing these similarities with the author made this book more meaningful to me in a strange sort of way3 1/2 months ago I noticed my horses foot was in pain. the Vet came out to check her back foot. I was prepared for Founder or Thrush but Not Lymphoma. I was angry, shocked and went into denial I did not want to believe my horse was terminal she just had a sore foot! I loved her. I couldn't lose her. I learned Love would not heal her, nothing would.Just 3 days ago I knew it was time. I told my big beautiful girl goodbye. I have not stopped crying and this book has been a source of comfort for me.

Oh my gosh, what a beautiful memoir. It starts out as just an interesting story, building and building until it just completely slays you at the end. Susan Richards is in her early forties, and she has moved past a horrific childhood and dysfunctional young adulthood, and created a satisfying life for herself. However, her strategies for keeping her demons at bay begin to crumble when Lay Me Down, her rescue horse, develops health problems. It is only by dealing with this situation that Susan is able to break through to her own healing. For anyone who had a difficult childhood, as I did, this memoir will fill you up with love, and give you reason to know that you're not alone.

I am about half way through the book and I can feel the lonliness that the author is portraying. I often feel it myself as life moves on. We each have our own things in life to deal with, accidents happen, parents divorce or pass away, etc. There can be nothing better than to be Chosen by a Horse as a friend, herdsperson, pal. I owned an Arabian gelding for about a year until my heavy schedule gave me only 2 hours a week to be with him. I had to sell him and did to a very wonderful woman who would be able to work with him for days not hours at a time. I have never missed anything as much as him before or after I owned him. That horse taught me more in 6 months than all my teachers in high school tried to do in 4 years. I know in my heart now (that it is too late) that I did the wrong thing by not readjusting my schedule to make more time available for him. A hard lesson learned.

This is an amazing story of love and healing. Ms. Richards rescued an abused horse and in the course of their time together began to heal from her own abused past. I avoid books, if I get a hint of it, that might make me cry. This book made me cry, but, I have to say, I'm really glad I read it. She has a very readable style and I like it well enough to read the "sequel to it.This is a beautiful and touching story and I strongly recommend it.

Lay Me Down had my heart from the very beginning. I became protective of her, against bossy Georgia. She reminded me of scripture, 1 Corinthians 13, the love chapter. Not a nasty bone in her body. A healer of brokenness in others. I wept in the end. Kudos to Susan Richards.

I am an animal lover and I too find all the wrong men in my life that will stand behind me, be there for me and above all respect me. except for my Brother and Sisters. This Book struck close to home, It reminded me of my dogs that I love dearly and had to put them down when it was their time to go. I Laughed with Susan and Wept like no tomorrow. And yes I too am amazed at how our beloved pets love us unconditionally. We are all learning how to Love, and we all continue to love and get hurt through out or lives, I'm guessing this is "Life". Our decision is to handle our situations as best as we know how.I have taken care of a neighbors Horses and I fell in Love with them and miss them dearly, the person I took care of them for was another person who took full advantage of me and I and the Horses are paying for the way she treats people. Now my goals and dreams in life have changed and I hope to someday have a rescue / shelter for abused and neglected Horses.

There were parts of this memoir I didn't enjoy but must have been part of her life.The worst part of any animal story is that they don't live as long as people and with someone as dedicated as this horse owner was it was so sad I couldn't help feeling like crying myself.Therese Short

I was somewhat hesitant to buy, because at least two of the previous "reviews" were nonsensical, repetitive, and not at all indicative of having actually read the book. I finished a book about 2 am and was excited about starting this book as I imagined immersing my self in the lives of people living in the swamps of the deep south. I started reading using continuous scrolling then stopped thinking somehow I had gotten on an introduction which was giving away everything about the book without the pleasure of the story. I then changed the format to normal and skimmed through the pages. This is a book report telling you what happens in each chapter. Then I went back to the title and saw it was a summary, why this is even available I don't know, who wants to read a dang book report. If I wanted to do that I would go back to teaching and read lots of book reports. Ok I can go with I did not pay attention to the big SUMMARY at the top of the page so I go back to Amazon and see that there is more than one summary in kindle unlimited??? Why??? and the book itself costs $4.99I feel like they put all these glowing summary reports in Kindle unlimited so you will then look at these free then want to read the book so will pay for the book. As interesting as the book sounds I am so irritated by this ploy that I will not buy the book. And I do buy books besides having Kindle unlimited and $4.99 is certainly affordable but no, I picked a different book.

It also includes information about things people would like to know and it does so in easy to digest bites. For example, which scientist invented vaccinations? What causes lactose intolerance? Why do you shiver and feel cold when you have a fever? The book also includes a section called Dr. B’s Tips, which gives brief discussions about common problems kids may want to know about such as strep throat, ear infections, concussions and others. All in all, this is a fabulous resource for the whole family. I definitely will use it in my child and adolescent psychology practice and with my grandchildren.

This book does an incredible job of catching the attention of a 2 year old with lots of anatomically accurate illustrations which a parent may talk about in terms younger audiences can follow. The book is also loaded with text that older kids can read and or be read too. This pediatric RN approves and believes that offering higher level reading to young minds is the best way to engage them.In addition, the descriptions will keep non medically trained adults fascinated too.

My son loves this book. We purchased the kindle version. My son just turned 5 years old and loves looking at the pictures and we will read it together. HOWEVER, there is a somewhat detailed description of the reproductive systems for both genders that I was not prepared to explain yet to my 5 year old at this time. I should have looked through the whole book before letting him look at it to decide how to explain it the way my husband and I would like to first. Our fault though sill a fun and educational book for school aged children.

I feel like every kid should have this book. Simple yet thorough explanations with lots of humor and colorful diagrams and drawings. I feel certain most adults will also learn a thing or two from this book. I wish I'd had this when my children were young..it would have saved me from lots of embarrassing and ignorant moments.

Really cool book. Our 8-year-old grandson loved it and actually spent more time reading it than playing video games while he was visiting for Christmas.

Love the book and most importantly my 5 and 7 year old loved it as well. The illustration is amazing!! I like how it has both reality and animated pics. Great buy 👍🏻

We love the book! We got it to our kids (who are Dr Bennett’ s patients) for them to read and enjoy when they grow older. It really reflects Dr. Bennett’s expertise, spirit and personality!

Bought this book for my grandchildren. Read some of it. Bought one for myself. Learned a lot. And thoroughly enjoyed the gross stuff.
