The author covers activities from the frivolous to the serious; from nightlife, Carnival, and Sailing Week to environmental awareness, and the local humane society. In addition to the breath of topics covered, the author has done an outstanding job in capturing the flavor of the island in photography, commendable consideration given to the inclusion of many locals in context and throughout the contents.As one who spent most of my formative years in Antigua before leaving 35 years ago, this book has brought back many old memories of traditional customs - Cricket p75, and Long Ghost p88; as well as introduced new activities I was unaware of such as Ballooning p82 and motor racing p144. Over the past 15 years my family and I have made more than 10 visits to Antigua, I was unaware of motor racing or that horse racing was still a big activity on Antigua. (We have not made it to Barbuda as yet). If limited buying only one travel guide on Antigua and Barbuda, this one stands out, there is something for everyone.

John S. Newman is Charles W. Tobias Chair of Electrochemistry, Department of Chemical Engineering, University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley), USA. He has been a recipient of the Onsager Professorship, 2002, of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway. His current research focus is on analysis and design of electrochemical systems, with batteries and fuel cells receiving the most attention. He is the author of over 300 technical publications, numerous plenary and invited lectures, and the book Electrochemical Systems. Vincent S. Battaglia is a research scientist and group lead of Energy Storage and Distributed Resources Division of ETA. He received his BS degree in chemical engineering from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA, and his MS degree and PhD in chemical engineering from UC Berkeley. He joined Argonne National Laboratory, Washington, DC, as a postdoctoral fellow and was later appointed as a chemical engineer, then technical coordinator for DOC PNGV office and coordinator of DOE VTO Battery Research there. He specializes in electrochemical energy storage and conversion and has received the Pacesetter Award from Argonne National Laboratory, the DOE R&D Award, the 2013 R&D 100 Award, and the FMC Corporation external research collaboration award.

I have used many Lonely Planet Guides to travel from Asia to Middle East to Africa, and they have all been great plan-it/do-it-yourself guides. This one isn't one of them. It gives no real info at all on the actual location of a site, except to show a little icon on a small scale map. It says little about shore entry, and little about where to go after entering the water. It barely says anything useful for snorkeling. It's no more useful than a coffee table book when it comes to helping one plan a trip. It's a nice visual production, but it's a guidbook series acquired by Lonely Planet and not a "real" LP Guide.

I'm very dissapointed in this book. I'm an experienced West Coast diver who has dove in Hawaii several times. I bought the book hoping to find detailed information on some great sites. What I got instead was a general overview without any real substance. Yes, there are some good facts throughout the text that are helpful, weather, climate conditions, etc., but very little on where and how to dive the individual sites. The sites for each island listed are only a few, and in my experience aren't the best ones. Specific details are left up to the diver or snorkeler to figure out. Something difficult for a first timer to the islands. The maps were too few, too basic, too broad, and lacked sufficient detail to really have this book be considered a "guide book." I would suggest anyone travelling over to Hawaii to pick up a copy of "The O`ahu Snorkelers and Shore Divers Guide" by Francisco B. de Carvalho. His book has more detailed info than any other book on the market and will definitely give you what you need to know on selecting and diving or snorkeling a site...all 26 for just the island of O`ahu.

I am usually not a Lonely Planet guide fan - I like more pictures. So this book was a pleasant surprise from them. Lots of vivid pictures. Fantastic advice about what types of things NOT to touch too!! Kept us out of trouble more than once. They listed several of the sites that the local dive shops mentioned as well. You have to know they are good that way! Nice to have a guide for which are shore access and which require a boat trip too. We went to every single shoreline access site listed for the Big Island and they were correct with their descriptions. Our trip wouldn't have been half as wonderful without this book! This book is a very well written book, that’s why I hardly believe that this was written by Maddie herself. I mean, she kept on talking about how humble she is and how amazing and sweet and kind she is. She also talks about how encouraging she is. This doesn’t sound like HER. I’ve been watching Dance Mom’s for years and it doesn’t sound like she wrote it. And the way she talked about her sister!!!!! If she’s so humble, she wouldn’t talk about her sister like that! And the Kenzie section, doesn’t sound like Kenzie wrote it at all!!!-Lila (11 years old)

I bought the first two editions of this book, so you know I like it. However, this edition was printed on low-quality paper. I'll keep it just for the new chapters that were added.

Good book, but the stories become a bit redundant, which is probably hard to avoid, when every chapter is about the same course.

Does anybody proofread this book? I saw several cases of misspelled words ('onbdlclick'), words passed by the spellcheck but incorrect for the context ('assess' instead of 'access'), words run together, and inappropriate use of commas. Technical descriptions could be better, especially in the discussions of objects and DOM.

No good... Has so many typos it's hard to believe it passed even the simplest of spell checkers. Content wise is very mediocre, but all in all it gave me a basic idea about the topic and for what I needed it's enough for now.

This was exactly what the title says: a quickstart guide. A good but superficial introduction to javascript. Now on to a more detailed book or course.
